Just one day after placing No. 2 running back Ito Smith on the injured reserve, the Atlanta Falcons' backfield is at risk of getting even thinner.

Devonta Freeman suffered an ankle injury in a Week 10 matchup with the New Orleans Saints, and he was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Freeman's fantasy football production hasn't been anything special this season, and he entered Sunday's slate of games tied for 20th among RBs with 13.7 PPR fantasy points per game. His volume had been solid though, averaging 17.1 opportunities (12.1 carries plus 5.0 targets) per game through the first eight weeks of the season.

Brian Hill Fantasy

Brian Hill was originally the Falcons' third-string RB, but he's not in line for lead-back work if Freeman is forced to miss any time.

Hill has only notched 39 carries and five receptions since being drafted in 2017, but he stepped in for Freeman and produced well against the Saints, finding the end zone in his second straight game.

It remains to be seen if this injury will force Freeman to miss any extended time, but this is a situation to monitor closely. As the de facto RB1 in the Falcons' backfield if Freeman sits, Hill would be a top-priority waiver wire add heading into Week 11's matchup with the Carolina Panthers.
