The New Orleans Saints' disappointing 2022 season somehow got even worse in Week 10. New Orleans was outplayed on both sides of the ball by the struggling Pittsburgh Steelers during a 20-10 loss.
Quarterback Andy Dalton specifically came under fire for his play, which has clearly limited this offense in recent weeks. Head coach Dennis Allen avoided discussing any QB controversy after the game.
Allen told reporters "I'm not going to get into that right now" when asked about a potential change under center. While he didn't give away much in his response, the fact he didn't come out and outright name Dalton the starter for Week 11 seems to suggest a change is at least being considered.
The Saints have stuck with Dalton as their starter even with Jameis Winston back from injury, but the results have been underwhelming. He's averaging just 222.7 passing yards per game over his seven starts this year, and that's inflated by a 361-yard outing in Week 7 that mostly occurred with the team down big.
Though Winston has been knocked for turnover-prone play in his career, the veteran Dalton hasn't been much better in that area this year. He's committed eight total turnovers (7 INTs, 1 fumble lost) in seven appearances and thrown for just 11 touchdowns in that same span. Taking away his four-TD outing in Week 7, he's recorded just seven passing touchdowns across the other six starts.
The calls for Winston to be seriously considered as the starter will only grow louder after Dalton's Week 10 stinker, where he posted just 174 yards, 1 TD and 2 INTs. It's clear he's not the man to take this offense where it goes, so it's worth seeing what Winston can do now that he's healthy again.
