Starting at 5:00 p.m. ET, we have 8 races Thursday at Del Mar "Where the Turf meets the Surf."

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and monitor the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).

According to numberFire horse racing projections, these are the best bets to make at FanDuel Racing today.

1. Holden the Lute and Lord Dragon, Race 2

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/2 and 3/1

Race 2 is a Claiming race at 1-mile. Holden the Lute (5/2) with the meets leading jockey Juan Hernandez is the projected winner with a challenge from Lord Dragon (3/1) and Loud Mouth (8/1).

Lord Dragon is a 10-time winner claimed in June, and he can make a move into a race with many speed runners pressing the pace. Holden the Lute lost by a nose last time out, and he has tactical speed.

2. Nak Nak Bolt and Mor Tequila, Race 5

FanDuel Racing Odds: 7/2 and 5/1

Race 5 is a Maiden sprint for 2-year-olds at 5 1/2 furlongs. The numberFire data projects Sam Malone (3/1) to win ahead of Mor Tequila (5/1) and Nak Nak Bolt (7/2).

Nak Nak Bolt ships in off one of the most productive Maiden races of the season at Churchill Downs. He missed the money after pressing the pace, but was just 5/1 in a race that returned multiple winners. He'll need to break well from the outside 10 post but can settle in outside of horses.

Mor Tequila is a fast-working first time starter.

3. Box of Chocolates and Sumo, Race 7

FanDuel Racing Odds: 8/5 and 5/1

Race 7 is a Claiming race at 6 furlongs and another full field of 10 runners. Box of Chocolates (5/2) drops down after getting claimed and is a lead contender with Sumo (5/1) and Big Scott Daddy (5/1), according to numberFire. Box of Chocolates finished second in his 2022 comeback race with a solid 93 speed figure.
