Chicago Bears standout running back David Montgomery has been sidelined since Week 4 with a knee injury. Montgomery's latest injury update offers little clarity around a return timeline after he's spent over a month on the IR list.

David Montgomery Injury Update

According to Bears beat writer Brad Biggs of The Chicago Tribune, the Bears may not see Montgomery return until following their Week 10 bye. It's complicated because the stud running back is eligible to return this week and head coach Matt Nagy was only able to offer that "he is improving every day."

Chicago is scheduled for Monday Night Football in Week 10 and their first official practice report won't be revealed until sometime on Thursday.

Khalil Herbert has stepped up nicely in Montgomery's absence, but is not the same caliber of runner. Montgomery averaged 77.3 yards per game (4.5 yards per attempt) including two 100+ yard rushing performances in four games. Herbert has scored just one time in two starts and averages 43.9 rushing yards per game.

The Bears enter Week 10 with a matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers and sit as 6-point underdogs on FanDuel Sportsbook.
