David Montgomery Posts Touching Goodbye to Chicago

The Chicago Bears' rebuild is taking a huge step this offseason. With a massive amount of cap space, Chicago has already signed a slew of players to help transform their roster, and aren't done yet.

Unfortunately, this also means some fan favorites in Chicago won't be returning. One of those guys is running back David Montgomery, who agreed to a deal with the Detroit Lions on Tuesday. After his departure from Chicago became official, Montgomery took to Instagram to thank the city of Chicago and Bears fans. You can view the video tribute here.

Montgomery was drafted in 2019 out of Iowa State with the expectation to be an every-down back for the Bears. While he showed flashes of that, Montgomery only surpassed 1,000 yards on the ground once and missed time due to various causes in each of the past three seasons.
However, he was a true do-it-all back, grabbing at least 25 receptions every year with the Bears, topping out at 54 in 2020. Chicago has some depth behind Montgomery in the backfield, especially after signing Travis Homer, so the team is set up to begin a new chapter in the backfield.
