Darwin Thompson was a buzzy name early in draft season, as he climbed his way up to No. 2 on the Kansas City Chiefs' running back depth chart behind Damien Williams. The signing of LeSean McCoy, however, threw a ton of cold water on the much-hyped rookie, who totaled just two touches in two games this season.

Now, heading into the Chiefs' Week 3 game against the Baltimore Ravens, Thompson may be called on for a larger role, now that both of those running backs are dealing with mid-week injuries. Williams exited Kansas City's Week 2 win over the Oakland Raiders with a knee contusion and McCoy also sustained an ankle injury.

While both of their Week 3 statuses are uncertain, the injuries to McCoy and Williams make Thompson close to a must-add in fantasy football, as he is owned in just 23 percent of Yahoo! Fantasy Football leagues.

Thompson showed a lot of potential in three preseason games, turning 15 offensive touches into 98 yards and a touchdown. He is fairly undersized at 5 feet, 8 inches and 200 pounds, but possesses the playmaking ability that can seemingly make anyone a star in the Chiefs' offense – just ask Demarcus Robinson and Mecole Hardman.

Awaiting Thompson in Week 3 is a home matchup with the Ravens, a game that features the week's highest over/under at 53 points, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. The Ravens have given up the fewest fantasy points to running backs so far this season, but that has been aided by a very soft schedule with gams against the Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals.

For Week 3, Thompson will likely only be playable in fantasy if both Williams and McCoy are out, as the Chiefs have been a prolific passing team through two weeks with little to show on the ground. He's worth stashing until the injury situation regarding the two other RBs is settled, especially considering his pass-catching ability.

Any player in the Chiefs' offense that's getting snaps and is available is entirely worth a speculative add heading into Week 3.
