One of the most frustrating parts of the Las Vegas Raiders' 2022 season has been tight end Darren Waller's health. Waller suffered a hamstring injury in Week 5 and has been questionable or a game-time decision for last several weeks, though he's never actually suited up.
Now the TE's status has taken a major turn for the worse.
Waller is being placed on the injured reserve list after reaggravating his hamstring injury. This is a major blow to an already-struggling Raiders offense, which will now be without the playmaker for at least the next four games.
Waller's hamstring has been an issue since the offseason. He sat out part of training camp with the injury, though he eventually was good to go for Week 1. The tight end was impactful over the first two games of the year, recording 10 receptions, 129 yards and a touchdown.
However, he managed just 6 receptions and 46 yards during Weeks 3-4, and the injury knocked him out of Week 5 after just 8 snaps played. He's missed the last three games, but has practiced in some capacity during this stretch.
The news of Waller suffering a setback is frustrating, but there's some clarity on the situation at the very least. Now Las Vegas will prepare to be without its stud TE for at least the next four weeks. If the 2-6 Raiders continue to lose, though, there's a chance Waller isn't brought back at all in 2022.
