Daniel Jones Tops Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson in Important Advanced Stat

If you asked most fans around the NFL, other than fans of the New York Giants, they'd probably all agree that Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson are better quarterbacks than Daniel Jones.
That's safe to say, sure, but Jones does top the two Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks in this important advanced statistic. It might be surprising to learn that Jones is actually the No. 1 quarterback in the entire NFL with this stat.

Around the NFL writer, Nick Shook took a deep dive into the advanced metrics behind quarterbacks and their success rates with deep throws. Deep throws are classified as passes traveling further than 20 yards through the air and compared everything through a series of metrics, including passer rating, touchdowns and "completion percentage over expectation (CPOE)."
Coming in at No. 1 on this list - none other than Giants third-year quarterback Jones. Notably, Rodgers ranked No. 4 on the list while Wilson came in at No. 8.
Last season, Jones attempted 39 deep passes and successfully completed 19 of them for 636 yards and five touchdowns. He threw zero interceptions and earned a passer rating of 134.3 on these deep throws. Honestly, it's pretty impressive.
The Giants' passing attack didn't necessarily put fear in the minds of defensive units around the league. New York averaged just 189.1 yards per game through the air, the fourth-lowest mark in the league. But, Jones enters his third full NFL season next year with Kenny Golladay now in town (a deep-ball specialist as well) and after a 6-10 overall finish, this franchise will look to take another step forward in 2021.
As it stands, FanDuel Sportsbook gives the Giants +400 odds to win the NFC East division, according to the latest NFL odds.
