The Dallas Cowboys have garnered a lot of buzz this offseason, as they always do. Jerry Jones had a number of big checks to sign and important decisions to make. Ultimately, the odds show that the Cowboys did a good job with these decisions, and they have +1700 odds to win the Super Bowl, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
The first big moves the Cowboys made was at head coach. Dallas decided to part ways with often-criticized coach Jason Garrett, and they replaced him with Mike McCarthy. McCarthy also has his fair share of critics, but he at least has a Super Bowl ring. It's unclear how much say McCarthy had in personnel decisions, but there's not doubt he inherited an immensely talented group of players.
Last season's Cowboys offense topped the NFL in yards, with 431.5 yards gained per game. Much of this success was due to the improved play of Dak Prescott and the chemistry he had with Amari Cooper. Dallas decided to give Cooper the big pay day he asked for, but only gave a franchise tag to Prescott. Still, Prescott signing this would lock him down for this season, which is all they are concerned with for right now.
The Cowboys also added talent to their defense. They brought in big names like Gerald McCoy, Anthony Brown and HaHa Clinton-Dix. Dallas also made the notable move of gambling on pass rusher Aldon Smith, who has not played since 2015. Still, he is a cheap signing that could have a big payoff, and the Cowboys have never been afraid of taking on players with questionable pasts.
The Cowboys +1700 odds to win the Super Bowl puts the tied with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the fifth-best odds in the NFL. The top four in the odds are the Kansas City Chiefs (+650), Baltimore Ravens (+700), San Francisco 49ers (+900) and New Orleans Saints (+1300).
