One of the most electrifying wide receivers in the NFL remains Seattle Seahawk D.K. Metcalf. His combination of size and speed is unheralded in todays game and it is certainly paying dividends for head coach Pete Carroll. Simply put, the sky is the limit for the third-year wideout in fantasy football.
Metcalf finished as the No. 7 WR in PPR leagues last season after hauling in 83 of his 129 targets for 1,303 yards and 10 touchdowns. It's not out of the realm of possibilities that the 23-year-old could battle for the No. 1 spot as quarterback Russell Wilson's top target in a dangerous offensive attack.
DK Metcalf Fantasy Outlook
Head coach Pete Caroll has always stressed the importance of moving the ball down the field through the air. The Seahawks drew up a passing play on 59.59% of their snaps last season, which ranked as the 14th-highest mark in the NFL. That only helps Metcalf see more action on the outside.
Metcalf's ability to stretch the field is what separates him from the pack in fantasy football. The Pro Bowler ranked 14th amongst wide receivers in targets (129), but ended up with the sixth-most yards in the league. That is because he averaged an impressive 15.7 yards per reception.
In fact, Metcalf tied for second in the NFL hauling in 5 catches of more than 40 yards. He also lead the NFL in deep receptions (receptions on balls that traveled 20 or more yards in the air), yards, and touchdowns against single coverage, according to Pro Football Focus.
Metcalf is worthy of a top price to get him in the first few rounds of fantasy football drafts after posting at least 100 yards or scoring a touchdown in 10 of his 16 games last season. His current average draft position is No. 19 overall and No. 5 amongst WRs in PPR leagues, according to FantasyPros.
Metcalf checks in as WR7 in The Duel's 2021 fantasy football rankings.
