The NHL Playoffs did not get off to the kind of start anyone expected. The 62-win Tampa Bay Lightning are 3-0 down to the Columbus Jackets while the Pittsburgh Penguins have looked outclassed against the New York Islanders.

This comes after Tampa Bay was massive favorites at +195 to win the Stanley Cup on FanDuel Sportsbook before the playoffs started. Now it's one game from being eliminated from the playoffs in the first round.

The only high seeds that have handled their business so far across either conference are the aforementioned Islanders and the reigning champion Washington Capitals. Amidst all the chaos, oddsmakers at FanDuel Sportsbook have pegged those two teams as the new favorites to win the Cup.

The Caps opened the playoffs at +1400. After taking a 2-0 lead on the Carolina Hurricanes, they have jumped all the way up to +500 on FanDuel Sportsbook.

The Islanders were previously at +2300 while their first-round opponent, Pittsburgh, was at +1700. New York now sits at +700 while Pittsburgh has the worst odds in the NHL at +4500. Despite being down 3-0, the Lightning only dropped to +1400.

Elsewhere in the NHL, the Columbus Blue Jackets are now in the Top 5 at +850 after taking three straight from Tampa. Calgary is the only real constant here, moving from +850 to +750 after splitting the first two games against Colorado. Vegas rounds out the Top 5 at +850 thanks to its 2-1 lead over the Sharks. The only other team with a series lead right now is the St. Louis Blues, who are 2-1 up on the Winnipeg Jets and are +1100 to win the Cup.

Finally the Bruins (+1200), Predators (+1400), Maple Leafs (+1400), Stars (+1600) and Avalanche (+2600) are all in series tied at 1-1. They will surely see more movement in their odds after Game 3 or 4.

The NHL Playoffs are probably the most unpredictable postseason in sports and they're proving once again why they have that reputation. Baring a miracle, the original favorite will be gone in the first round and, if that trend continues, the Islanders and Capitals might want to watch their backs too.
