Cubs Send Down Veteran Reliever to Meet 13-Pitcher Rule

Adrian Sampson is being sent to the minor leagues as a result of Monday's pitcher reduction deadline. He just took the mound for the Cubs on Sunday, throwing 4.2 scoreless innings and allowing only one hit against the Atlanta Braves.
The 30-year-old began the year in Triple-A, where he owns a 3.81 ERA across 28.1 innings. Sunday's game against Atlanta was his second outing for Chicago this season; he also played in 10 games with the team in 2021, recording a 2.80 ERA.
Sampson saw his most significant MLB action in 2019 with the Texas Rangers. He made 15 starts and 35 overall appearances while recording a 5.89 ERA.
