The Chicago Cubs have rebounded from a poor start to the season and are now just 0.5 games back in the NL Central division with a record of 29-22. However, it isn't all good news as utility player and regular starter David Bote was placed on the 10-day injured list with a shoulder injury.

Cubs News: David Bote Placed on 10-Day IL

Bote was forced to leave the Cubs' game against the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday after a slide into second base caused him to dislocate his left shoulder. No definitive timeline has been given as to Bote's return yet. This just comes at the worst possible time for the Cubs.

The Cubs now have five position players on the IL including Bote, Matt Duffy, Jason Heyward, Jake Marisnick and Nico Hoerner. First baseman Anthony Rizzo is also dealing with lingering back pain, which means the team is going to have to rely on a lot of players to step up when called upon.

Bote has been seeing starts every day this season anywhere in the infield besides first base. He is hitting .194/.273/.333 with 16 runs scored and 23 RBI on the year. The 28-year-old has also hit 5 home runs so far and drawn 13 walks. The Cubs called up Sergio Alcantara to take his spot on the roster.

The Cubs currently have odds set at +550 to win the NL Central and odds set at +600 to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
