Cubs News: Adbert Alzolay Nursing Concerning Injury
The Chicago Cubs have had an up-and-down MLB season so far, but sit just 0.5 games back in the NL Central division with a record of 33-27. However, the team cannot seem to stay healthy and that includes starting pitcher Adbert Alzolay, who is now dealing with a concerning finger blister.
Adbert Alzolay Injury Update
Alzolay was lifted from Monday night's game against the San Diego Padres after pitching just 3.0 innings because of a blister on his right middle finger. The 26-year-old hurler had pitched well in recent weeks, but allowed four runs and five walks in that outing. It's now quite clear the blister had a negative effect on this performance.
It would be a big blow to the Cubs' starting rotation if Alzolay is forced to miss additional time. He has been one of their best pitchers this season posting a 4.06 ERA and 4-5 record through 11 starts (57.2 innings pitched). Alzolay has also racked up 62 strikeouts so far this season.
The Cubs continue to go through a brutal stretch of injuries as three starting position players and two pitchers are already on the 10-day injured list. The next update released by the team should give more insight on whether or not Alzolay will be able to make his next scheduled start.
For now, Cubs fans have to just sit back and hope the team can keep finding ways to win ball games. The Cubs currently have odds set at +350 to win the division and odds set at +4500 to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
