Clark Phillips III Scouting Report

Clark Phillips III was one of the best cornerbacks in all of college football last season, earning 2022 unanimous All-American honors while being named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year. He finished his final campaign at Utah with 24 tackles, 6 interceptions, 6 broken-up passes and a 68.4 quarterback rating when targeted.

Is Phillips the biggest CB? No, but he does a lot of things right. Scouts rave about his quickness and ball skills. He's also active with his hands, proven by 19 defended passes and 8 INTs over the past two years. He also excels at reading opposing QBs' eyes, having a good idea where the ball will go next.

Phillips does have some weaknesses, though. He's not great at shadowing routes, sometimes getting separated from his man. He also doesn't give the biggest catch/tackle radius due to his size, which could come back to bite him. Lastly, he must work on limiting his aggression so he doesn't take too many penalties as a pro.

Clark Phillips III NFL Draft Prediction

Clark Phillips III is a terrific prospect who could become a real impact player in the NFL. Having said that, if he was taller, he'd likely be talked about as a potential first-round selection.

After being terrorized by opposing QBs last season, the Las Vegas Raiders could use a defensive playmaker like Phillips. His hand skills would immediately add another dimension to the Raiders' secondary, making opponents think twice before throwing the ball.

Las Vegas owns five draft picks in the first four rounds, but I don't see Phillips falling beyond the third. His upside is just too high to ignore, warranting a second-round selection.

Prediction: Las Vegas Raiders (Round 2, 38th overall)
