Horses, jockeys and trainers alike have been preparing for the 149th running of the Kentucky Derby, which is set to take place on Saturday, May 6. The legendary race has always been run at Churchill Downs Racetrack, which first opened back in 1985 about three miles south of downtown Louisville.

Churchill Downs holds the record for the longest-running continuous sporting event in the United States and now brings in crowds north of 170,000 people. The venue has gone through numerous upgrades and changes, but the Kentucky Derby remains the "most exciting two minutes in sports."
