The Milwaukee Brewers moved one step closer to being eliminated from playoff contention on Tuesday as the St. Louis Cardinals clinched the National League Central with a 6-2 win over Milwaukee.

After the game, Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich summed up the glum mood in the locker room with an honest assessment of the team, saying, "You get what you deserve and sports and we just...weren't able to put it all together."

It's been a frustrating season for Yelich and his teammates. Milwaukee was ahead of St. Louis in the standings for much of the year before falling out of first place for good on Aug. 6. The team has gone just 60-63 since the beginning of June and now finds itself desperately fighting for a Wild Card spot.

Even that seems unlikely, however, as the Brewers are on the outside looking in with just a week remaining in the regular season.

Yelich's comments about "getting what you deserve" could also be interpreted as a shot at Milwaukee's front office. The team was not happy after All-Star closer Josh Hader was shipped out at the trade deadline, and there still seems to be some lingering resentment over the move and the downward spiral that followed.

While things aren't looking great for the Brewers right now, the season's not over yet. They're still alive and have one more game against the Cardinals on Wednesday before the lowly Miami Marlins and Arizona Diamondbacks -- both with losing records -- come to Milwaukee to close out the regular season.

The Brewers still have some winnable games left. If they don't win them, however, they'll have no one to blame but themselves.
