Updated (Friday, Dec. 11, 1:30 p.m. EST): Christian McCaffrey has officially been ruled as doubtful for Week 14, which indicates that he will miss his tenth game of the season. Mike Davis is slated to take over lead back duties once again.
Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey has picked up injuries left and right during the 2020 season. A lingering shoulder injury will likely keep CMC out in Week 14 against the Denver Broncos, which should skyrocket Mike Davis' fantasy outlook.
Christian McCaffrey Fantasy Outlook
McCaffrey is a top-tier RB when healthy, but he's managed to play in just three games this season, hampering his fantasy impact. The running back has scored no less than 24 fantasy points (PPR) in each of his three games played, so it's disappointing that fantasy managers have had so few games with him in the lineup.
Mike Davis Fantasy Outlook
Davis is used to filling in for McCaffrey at this point, having played in all 12 of the team's games versus just three for the Panthers' lead back. On the season, Davis is averaging 15.7 opportunities (10.5 rushes plus 5.2 targets) and 69.4 yards from scrimmage per game.
Davis has slotted in as a solid RB2 this season, averaging 13.6 fantasy points per game and bumping those numbers up to 15.5 fantasy points in the nine games without McCaffrey in the lineup. The backup exploded for three straight performances of 20+ fantasy points from Week 3-5, but he hasn't topped even 16 points since.
The large workload that Davis is set to take on once again in Week 14 makes him a solid play. His opponent this week, the Denver Broncos, is allowing 22.86 fantasy points per game to opposing RBs, which puts them in the middle of the pack.
Hopefully Davis can finally break through against a defense that ranks No. 22 in Football Outsiders' rush DVOA metric.
