There was hope that running back Christian McCaffrey would return from a hamstring injury this Sunday, but things are not trending in the right direction. The Carolina Panthers have listed their star running back as doubtful for Week 5, which opens the door for Chuba Hubbard to start once again.
McCaffrey is still working his way back after being a limited participant in practice this past week. Hubbard's fantasy outlook remains bright following this news as he was treated with a 13-carry workload in Week 4. The rookie RB rushed for 57 yards and added in 2 receptions for 14 yards as well.
Chuba Hubbard Fantasy Outlook
Keep in mind that Hubbard has also seen 6 red zone looks over his last two games played. The 22-year-old's role on this offense should only increase the longer McCaffrey is on the sidelines. Hubbard's ability to run up the middle or break out and run routes benefits him in PPR scoring leagues.
While he isn't going to give fantasy managers the same kind of production as McCaffrey, Hubbard is worth starting this week given the favorable matchup in front of him. The Eagles are allowing a league-high 150.2 rushing yards per game and giving up the sixth-most PPR points to opposing ball-carriers.
In fact, an opposing running back has scored at least 1 touchdown against Philadelphia in each of the last two weeks. Hubbard checks in at RB24 in The Duel's Week 5 fantasy football rankings. He is a borderline RB2 this week and a great FLEX option.
