Carolina Panthers fans were given a scare when superstar rusher Christian McCaffrey exited Sunday's loss to the Miami Dolphins with an ankle injury. He was later seen leaving the stadium with a walking boot, which only added fuel to the fire.

Fortunately, Panthers fans can now breathe a sigh of relief. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Monday morning that McCaffrey rolled his ankle and that the injury doesn't seem to be too serious.

Panthers head coach Matt Rhule also spoke to reporters Monday morning, adding that McCaffrey's initial MRI results have come back negative. He added that more tests will take place on Monday, which will give everyone a better sense of a return timetable.

Still, Panthers fans must be disappointed that a campaign marred by injuries has held their leading rusher to just seven games this season. To make matters worse, Carolina is just 1-4 in games without McCaffrey in 2021.

With Carolina battling for the final NFC Wild Card spot, it's definitely a good thing that McCaffrey isn't expected to be out long. If the team can survive his absence, the postseason is still a possibility.

Unfortunately, oddsmakers don't have much faith in the Panthers qualifying for the playoffs. FanDuel Sportsbook is favoring Carolina to miss the postseason at -4000 odds.
