Carolina Panthers' running back Christian McCaffrey has arguably been both the best player in the NFL and fantasy football this season. In fact, he's starting to make a case for his fantasy value to be considered matchup-proof after this past weekend, turning in a solid performance against the stout San Francisco 49ers' defense, despite his team's blowout loss.
In the 51-13 road loss to the Niners, McCaffrey took 18 touches for 155 yards and one touchdown. He had 67.4 percent of his team's yards on the day and became just the second player to score a rushing touchdown against San Francisco this season.
McCaffrey has been far and away the best running back in fantasy this season, sitting over 16 fantasy points ahead the next running back in PPR scoring, who is Dalvin Cook. This is impressive as is, but it becomes an even greater feat when noting the other four names in the top-5 fantasy running backs have played one more game than McCaffrey through Week 8.
His 29.8 fantasy points per week are more than any other player in fantasy, including quarterbacks. McCaffrey's pace is both impressive and historic, but we will see if he can keep it up for the second half of the season.
McCaffrey should be considered the most valuable player heading into the second half of the season, after he has proven to be matchup-proof thus far in 2019. Aside from being able to perform against anyone, he still has two matchups with the lowly Atlanta Falcons' defense and another against the Washington Redskins.
