The NFL MVP odds race is heating up after a couple big Week 5 performances. Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey and Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson saw huge improvements in their odds to win the award, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Now sitting at +1000, McCaffrey has the best odds for a non-quarterback to win, and the third-best odds overall. After racking up 237 yards from scrimmage in Week 5, McCaffrey is on track to hit 2,771 yards from scrimmage, which puts him on pace to break the previous record set by Chris Johnson (2,509) back in 2009.

Meanwhile, Watson (+1000) put up a terrific performance in the shootout win against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 5, passing for 426 yards and five touchdowns.

Watson and McCaffrey entered Week 5 at -2200, but after those big-time performances, both are now listed at +1000.

Above these two is Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson (+850). Through five games, Wilson has completed 73.1 percent of his passes (No. 2 in NFL) and has thrown a league-high 12 touchdowns to zero interceptions.

The favorite to win MVP continues to be Patrick Mahomes, at +110. He has passed for over 300 yards in every game this season, leading to a league-high 1,831 yards, while also throwing 11 touchdowns to no interceptions.

With Mahomes and Watson facing off in Week 6, we will get a good look at two of the MVP favorites, and it could give Watson a chance to make up some ground.
