The Minnesota Vikings made it clear that they had big plans for left tackle Christian Darrisaw when they selected him 23rd overall at the 2021 NFL Draft. However, the 22-year-old has barely participated in training camp due to a nagging groin injury.

After months of dealing with it, Darrisaw underwent "a minor core-muscle procedure" on Thursday, according to the NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. For any fans worrying about the rookie's status going forward, there's some good news. The Vikings are expecting Darrisaw to be good to go for Week 1 of the new season, which should come as a relief.

Christian Darrisaw Injury Update

Darrisaw is expected to be the team's starting left tackle this year, so they likely won't rush him back until they know he's fully healthy.

After all, he showed just how effective he can be when he's at the top of his game in 2020 with the Virginia Tech Hokies. He played 10 games last year and didn't allow a single sack on 669 offensive snaps. Darrisaw finished the season with a 95.6 overall Pro Football Focus grade, which solidified him as one of the top offensive linemen in all of college football.

The truth is that the Vikings could use Darrisaw's protection following the team's poor O-line performance last year. Minnesota gave up 2.4 sacks per game in 2020, which put them in a tie with the San Francisco 49ers for the 12th-worst average. When all was said and done, quarterback Kirk Cousins was sacked 39 times — the sixth-highest total of all quarterbacks. Limiting that number this season will go a long way in helping Minnesota find potential success.

The Vikings will certainly need Darrisaw's help as they chase their first divisional crown since 2017. Minnesota currently has +250 odds to win the NFC North, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, which trails only the Green Bay Packers at -145.
