Chiefs Linked to Pro Bowl Offensive Lineman in Free Agency

The Kansas City Chiefs have been incredibly active in free agency this offseason. The organization released big-name stars like Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz, signed Joe Thuney to a massive contract and was even reportedly in the running for guys like JuJu Smith-Schuster and Trent Williams.
And it doesn't look like Kansas City is done, either. While most assumed the Chiefs would be looking to plug their huge holes at tackle via the 2021 NFL Draft, general manager Brett Veach is reportedly kicking the tires on two-time Pro Bowl LT Russell Okung.

When healthy, Okung has always been one of the better blindside protectors in the league. That much was true again last season, when the 32-year-old received an 80.0 pass-blocking grade from ProFootballFocus. That put him inside the top 20 among all tackles.
Of course, injuries reared their head again, as Okung only made seven appearances in 2020 after being limited to six appearances in 2019. In fact, Okung has missed at least one game in four consecutive seasons and has only played one full 16-game season in his 11-year career.
After what happened to the Chiefs' O-Line in the postseason, an injury history like that may understandably worry fans.
But that should also mean that Okung comes at a significantly discounted rate. And as long as the Chiefs continue adding depth at OT throughout the offseason, he could be a fantastic addition to this team.
