Chase Edmonds Injury Update Clouds Fantasy Outlook for Kenyan Drake and David Johnson in Week 13

The Arizona Cardinals backfield has been one of the trickiest to tackle in fantasy football for the last few weeks, and things aren't going to get any easier with Chase Edmonds back at practice and possibly returning to action for a Week 13 matchup with the Los Angeles Rams.

Edmonds started the year as the Cards' No. 2 RB behind David Johnson, but Johnson has been banged up and Edmonds took over as the lead back in Week 7, posting 126 yards and three TDs on 27 carries before suffering an injury of his own. The Cards then complicated things even further by trading for Kenyan Drake, who saw 16 carries and seven targets in Week 11 despite Johnson not being listed on the injury report.

The Arizona offense clearly creates plenty of value for its lead back, as all three of them have had games with at least 18.0 PPR fantasy points scored this year, and one of the three has at least 17.5 points on eight occasions this season. At least one has scored double-digit PPR points in nine of 11 games in 2019.

The situation is especially tough because we can't really trust the Cardinals' injury updates. DJ was active and technically the starter in Week 7, but he played only three snaps in that game. He was removed from the injury report in Week 11 but was clearly not 100 percent, and played only eight snaps. So even if we get word that Edmonds is healthy this week, the size of his role is almost impossible to project.

The safest bet is Kenyan Drake, whose 90 percent snap share in Week 11 was the highest single-game mark for any Cardinals RB this year, who is fully healthy, and who has averaged 13.7 carries and 7.0 targets per game since arriving in Arizona.

Even though this offense has consistently churned out solid fantasy production, the high degree of uncertainty for this week's matchup with the Los Angeles Rams downgrades all three backs. Our Week 13 PPR fantasy football rankings have Johnson and Edmonds unranked while Drake checks in at RB23.
