The St. Louis Cardinals continue a really tough stretch of baseball to kick off the month of June. St. Louis just got swept in three games against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. Furthermore, this team is just 1-9 over their last 10 and has slipped from first-place in the NL Central standings, now trailing the Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers by 6.0 games.

Earlier this month, starting pitcher Kwang Hyun Kim landed on the 10-day injured list with a lower back issue. While starting pitchers don't necessarily have a huge impact on the day-to-day success of a team, it's worth noting that St. Louis has lost 6 of their last 7 games during his time on the bench. Fortunately, it looks like Kim got some good news on his latest injury update.

Cardinals beat reporter Jeff Jones noted that Kim got a "thumbs up" after his recent bullpen session. That means the lefty starter will likely be activated from the injured list on Tuesday, a huge sigh of relief for fans.

Kim has been troubled by a lower back issue throughout his 2021 campaign, which may be showing up in his stats. In his second full MLB season, Kim owns just a 4.05 ERA in 9 starts. Last year, while fully healthy, Kim was brilliant for the Cardinals during the pandemic-shortened season. He went 3-0 in seven starts, pitching to a stifling 1.62 ERA in 39.0 innings.

Hopefully, Kim will come back at full strength and start replicating some of his dominant numbers from 2020. The Cardinals are in need of pitching as this team ranks just 18th in the MLB with a 4.33 team ERA.
