The NL Central was one of the hardest divisions to predict coming into the 2021 MLB season, but the St. Louis Cardinals have certainly set themselves apart so far. They currently own a 23-15 record and sit a full 3 games up on the Milwaukee Brewers for first place.

The Cardinals recent success has allowed them to continue climbing up ESPN's MLB power rankings. They jumped from No. 6 to No. 4 this week. In fact, St. Louis is the second-highest ranked team in the National League behind just the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Cardinals News: Climb in ESPN Power Rankings

The Cardinals started the season 8-10, but they have since gone on a 15-5 stretch that has catapulted them into first place. St. Louis is getting the job done all over the field and currently boasts an impressive +27 run differential on the season.

This pitching staff has done well to keep the Cardinals in games posting a team ERA of 3.61 (No. 10 in MLB). The starting rotation is led by ace Jack Flaherty, who is the only MLB pitcher with 7 wins this season. St. Louis is also benefitting from a bounce-back season from veteran Adam Wainwright (42 strikeouts in 6 starts).

With a lineup full of power and talent, it was only a matter of time before the offensive numbers started heating up for this team. Slugging third baseman Nolan Arenado now leads the team with 24 RBI and rookie outfielder Dylan Carlson has posted a .364 on-base percentage so far.

The Cardinals have odds set at +105 to win the NL Central division, according to MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook. They also have the 11th-best odds to win it all at +2400, but that number may continue to rise.
