It's been smooth sailing for the St. Louis Cardinals, who sit at 13-9 and in second place in the NL Central standings as the MLB calendar rolls into May. However, there was a bit of concern when the team's best contact hitter Tommy Edman began dealing with a possible hip injury over the weekend.

Fortunately, Edman's latest injury update gives the Cardinals great news in the middle of their three-game set against the Kansas City Royals.

Edman originally left Sunday's series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks early with left hip flexor tightness. The concern grew when manager Oliver Marmol held him from Monday's lineup, but that was all washed away when the lineup card dropped on Tuesday.

Cardinals News

Edman returns to the Cardinals' starting nine, batting leadoff as St. Louis looks to make it two straight against the Royals.

The young second baseman has been on a tear to start the season, earning his way into the leadoff spot thanks to a stellar .306/.405/.486 slash line, including 11 RBIs and 5 stolen bases.

Edman also continues to shine at second base after taking home the Gold Glove in 2021.

Marmol and his squad head into Tuesday's tilt as -116 moneyline favorites over Kansas City, according to MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
