The Cleveland Browns' defensive unit will not be at full strength for Sunday's tilt against the New England Patriots in Week 6 action. Both starting cornerback Denzel Ward and defensive end Jadeveon Clowney were already ruled out for this contest.
Fortunately, the Browns received a bit of positive injury news on Saturday.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported the Browns officially activated cornerback Greedy Williams from the IR on Saturday. It's perfect timing for Williams to make his 2022 season debut with the absence of Ward.
Williams started his year on the IR thanks to a variety of ongoing hamstring issues. He did finally return to the practice field this week, joining a squad after racking up his career-high 10 passes defended and 2 interceptions across 8 starts during the 2021 campaign.
The third-year corner gave himself a positive review earlier in the week, saying “everything has been crisp and clean" as he continues "making plays and re-establishing [himself]."
Head coach Kevin Stefanski will likely use a combination of Williams and Martin Emerson Jr. to fill in for Ward.
The Browns are considered slight 2.5-point home favorites ahead of this Week 6 clash, per NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
