The Cleveland Browns' first win of the 2021 NFL season over the weekend came at a cost. Former Pro Bowl wideout Jarvis Landry was officially placed on the injured reserve with an MCL sprain on Tuesday and will miss a minimum of three games.
Landry left during the first quarter of Cleveland's 31-21 win over the Houston Texans on Sunday and did not return. Now, the Browns have to figure out what to do without one of their top pass-catching options.
Jarvis Landry Injury Update
Once a player is placed on the IR, they have to stay there for a minimum of three weeks. Obviously, the Browns would like to have Landry back on the field when that time is up, however, there still isn't a clear timetable on his return.
The Browns haven't had much luck when it comes to their wide receiver group this year. Two-time All-Pro wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has yet to make his 2021 debut, which already limited Cleveland to begin with. Beckham has recorded at least 1,000 receiving yards in five of his previous seven seasons, so getting a player of his caliber back in the lineup would be helpful — especially with Landry on the IR.
If both Landry and Beckham are absent in Week 3, Donovan Peoples-Jones and Rashard Higgins will enter the game against the Chicago Bears as Cleveland's top receivers. That's hardly inspiring for a team that was poised to have a big year following a trip to the 2020 Divisional Round.
The Browns are currently 7.5-point favorites to beat the Bears, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
