Browns Add Potential Backup QB Behind Deshaun Watson With Latest Signing

The Cleveland Browns' backup quarterback spot opened up after Jacoby Brissett signed with the Washington Commanders last week. With Kellen Mond being the only rostered arm behind QB1 Deshaun Watson, the Browns have added a potential backup gunslinger with their latest signing.
Vayner Sports' Mike McCartney reported Monday night that the Browns have signed QB Josh Dobbs to a one-year deal.

Cleveland Browns News
This is the second straight offseason that Dobbs has signed with the Browns. He came to Cleveland on a one-year deal last April, but was waived once Watson finished serving his 11-game suspension. The former Tennessee Volunteer then spent time with the Detroit Lions and Tennessee Titans for the remainder of the season.
Although he doesn't have the most NFL experience, Dobbs has proven to be a competent backup QB. The Titans gave him two starts to close out the campaign and while they lost both contests, Dobbs still tallied a respectable 411 passing yards with two touchdowns to a pair of interceptions.
Having studied the Browns' playbook last season, it's a no-brainer that Dobbs was brought back to town. Cleveland already learned the importance of a reliable backup QB after the Watson debacle last season, leaving time to tell if Dobbs can rise to the occasion — just like Brissett did — if need be in 2023.
