Matthew Stafford is almost universally viewed as one of the top 10 quarterback talents in the NFL. Needless to say, the Detroit Lions fielded plenty of calls about their longtime franchise passer when he was put on the trade market earlier in the offseason.

While he was eventually traded to the Los Angeles Rams, the Denver Broncos reportedly made a significant run at the Georgia product. In fact, Denver seemingly offered a huge haul in hopes of landing Stafford.

According to reports, Denver offered Detroit the No. 9 overall selection and their current QB Drew Lock in a proposed deal for the former No. 1 overall pick.

That had to be pretty enticing for the Lions, who didn't receive a 2021 first-round pick in the Stafford deal. Instead, they scored the Rams' first-round picks in 2022 and 2023 alongside LA's 2021 third-round pick and another former No. 1 overall pick in Rams' QB Jared Goff. Not exactly a bad haul.

While the deal ultimately never came to fruition, this does seem to signal that Denver is aggressively looking to upgrade at QB. And there has been some recent buzz around the Broncos potentially entering the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes.

In an offseason expected to see an unusually high amount of turnover at the QB position, it's starting to look like Denver is going to make a real run at acquiring a new franchise QB.
