Broncos Trade for Linebacker Depth From 49ers

Tuesday marks the final deadline for NFL teams to cut their roster down to 53 players ahead of the regular season, causing a flurry of roster moves around the league.
As part of this flurry of moves, the Denver Broncos have traded for linebacker Jonas Griffith from the San Francisco 49ers. Denver will send a 2022 sixth-round draft pick and 2023 seventh-round pick in exchange for Griffith and a 2022 seventh-round pick.

Denver Broncos Trade
Griffith, a 2020 undrafted talent from Indiana State, did not see any action during the 49ers' regular season last year. Instead, the young linebacker spent part of the season on San Francisco's practice squad.
This is a situation where the 49ers saw some value in their young linebacker, however, did not plan for him to make the roster. Instead, they gain some draft capital and the Broncos obtain linebacker depth with the idea he likely wouldn't pass through waivers.
In five years at Indiana State, Griffith saw action in 44 games with 34 starts. He recorded 382 tackles, 50 tackles for loss, 14.0 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 3 recovered fumbles and two interceptions during that span.
Currently, the Broncos enter Week 1 of the NFL season as 2.5-point road favorites against the New York Giants, according to NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
