The Denver Broncos are on the outside of the playoffs looking in once again this season. They haven't made the playoffs since they won the Super Bowl in 2015 and remain in constant search for a franchise quarterback.

Fans are getting frustrated as the team continues to cycle through one option after another. While current starter Drew Lock has shown signs of potential, he also hasn't progressed as much as the team had hoped since drafting him in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft.

It's possible more changes are coming this offseason. With that in mind, here are the three most likely starting QBs for the Broncos in 2021.

3. Drew Lock

Drew Lock is currently playing in the second year of the four-year rookie contract he signed when he was drafted. Lock's dead cap hit is not the problem here as it is only $1.6 million next year and falls to just over $779,000 the year after that. It simply comes down to whether or not the Broncos' front office is confident that Lock is their franchise quarterback. His performance in these last few games of the season could go a long way in helping decide his fate. He will likely be on the roster next season no matter what, but it is yet to be seen if that will be as the starter or the backup.

2. Mac Jones

The Broncos could also look at drafting another quarterback in the 2021 NFL draft. Alabama quarterback Mac Jones is projected anywhere from the top 10 to the early second round and could be a player the Broncos target. Jones has played in 26 career games as the Crimson Tide quarterback and has an impressive 42:6 touchdown to interception ratio to go along with a 72.1 completion percentage. Passing on the top quarterbacks in the class to address bigger needs could benefit the Broncos as Jones is being widely underrated given how deep the quarterback class in this draft is. He could be brought in to compete with Lock over the offseason for the starting role. At that point, it is even possible he beats Lock out right away and starts for the Broncos as soon as next season.

1. Carson Wentz

Broncos GM John Elway hasn't been afraid to make changes at the quarterback position before and there is no reason that stops now. One big name he could target in a trade is current Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz. He was just benched for rookie Jalen Hurts and could be shopped this offseason. He is only 28 and nowhere near the end of his career. The Broncos are one of the few teams in the NFL that could easily create enough cap space to take on Wentz's massive contract. His upside remains high and a change of scenery may be all Wentz needs to go back to being a starting-caliber quarterback.
