New Denver Broncos GM George Paton has a huge decision to make (and soon) on linebacker Von Miller. The team could decline Miller's option for 2021 and save around $11 million in cap space, but that'd mean cutting ties with an important player to the franchise.
Paton recently spoke to the media about his feelings on bringing Miller back.
Paton left no room for interpretation by definitively saying that the team wants to bring Miller back. There have been rumors both regarding the team's decision to cut him and a new contract being worked on, so these comments cut through the noise by making the Broncos' stance clear.
Working with Miller to hammer out a contract extension would give the Super Bowl champ a chance to finish his career in Denver and afford the team much-needed cap flexibility. Miller missed the entire 2020 campaign with an ankle injury, and his sacks fell to just 8.0 in 2019, but it's clear the three-time All-Pro could still have an impact on a Broncos defense lacking playmakers.
At 32 years old, he still has something left in the tank, and he'd be sure to have his suitors if he hits the open market this offseason.
