Every team goes through ups and downs during the MLB season and the Milwaukee Brewers are in the midst of a down period. That's what makes the fact that they still lead the National League Central even more impressive. This is a team that is built to shine when the lights are the brightest.

However, the Brewers are not being given that kind of credit in ESPN's latest MLB power rankings.

Milwaukee checks in at No. 8 overall, which is three spots lower than their ranking last week (5). That's understandable, but what is not understandable is that the Brewers were jumped by the St. Louis Cardinals. Yes, the same Cardinals team that currently sits below the Brewers in the standings.

The Brewers have long leaned on a strong pitching staff to get the job done and that has been the case in 2022 once again. Milwaukee ranks sixth in team ERA (3.52) and is averaging a ridiculous 9.76 strikeouts per nine innings pitched (No. 1 in MLB). They are flat out commanding on the mound.

It's at the plate where Milwaukee needs to put the pieces together. Manager Craig Counsell's team is winning games despite only putting up 4.29 runs per contest (No. 18 in MLB). If Christian Yelich and Willy Adames can get going, the Brewers have a shot to strengthen their divisional lead even more.

When it comes down to it, this is a team that no one is going to want to face in October. The Brewers have the sixth-best odds to win the World Series at +1200, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
