Milwaukee Brewers superstar Christian Yelich has only played nine games this season. He hasn't played since April 11, when he suffered a back injury against the St. Louis Cardinals. While the injury didn't appear too concerning at first, Milwaukee elected to place Yelich on the injured list about a week later.

And the latest update from Brewers manager Craig Counsell doesn't make it sound like a quick return is on the horizon.

The team reportedly sent Yelich back to Milwaukee to get an MRI on his injured back. Speaking about his return, Counsell told reporters that they've "hit a bit of a plateau," as it relates to Yelich's back injury.

That makes it sound like this injury could linger for a little while, which is obviously devastating news for the Brewers.

Milwaukee (11-8) is currently sitting in first place in the NL Central. The club has managed to weather the storm without Yelich, going 6-4 with the former MVP on the sidelines. But how long this team can keep that up without one of the best hitters in the world remains to be seen.

Even with all the uncertainty surrounding Yelich, Milwaukee (+120) is currently favored to win the NL Central, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
