Braves Get Tough News on Tyler Matzek Injury Update

The Atlanta Braves have gotten off to a below-average start to their title defense, opening the year with a 16-20 record. And things don't seem to be getting easier, as Atlanta placed reliever Tyler Matzek on the injured list.

Though he's been struggling recently, Matzek is undoubtedly a crucial part of this Braves' bullpen. He pitched to a 2.57 ERA with 77 strikeouts in 63 innings pitched in 2021, and he recorded a 2.79 ERA with the Braves back in 2020.

This year, however, Matzek has opened up with a 5.06 ERA through 10.2 innings pitched in 13 appearances. Hopefully, some time on the IL can help Matzek get his season back on track, and rookie Spencer Strider is expected to step up while Matzek remains on the shelf.

Despite the slow start and poor injury luck, Atlanta still has the seventh-best odds to win the World Series (+1500), according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
