The Atlanta Braves continue to pursue the NL East title, sitting 1.5 games back of the rival New York Mets with only a few weeks remaining on the 2022 MLB schedule. Unfortunately, the Braves' quest isn't any easier following the latest injury news regarding pitcher Mike Soroka.

The Athletic's David O'Brien reported Thursday night that Soroka has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to elbow inflammation. The injury occurred as he was rehabbing from two Achilles tears that have kept him out of the Majors since 2020.

Mike Soroka Injury News

This news is absolutely devastating for anyone who knows how hard Soroka has fought to make a comeback. Braves manager Brian Snitker says that the plan is now to get the 25-year-old "ready for next spring" when he can, hopefully, compete for a starting job.

Fortunately, the good news is that there wasn't any structural damage to Soroka's elbow. It's also a good thing that Atlanta's rotation has fared well without him this year, combining for a 3.63 ERA — seventh-best in Major League Baseball.

Nevertheless, it's better to shut Soroka down to give him more time to bounce back. His rehab starts weren't going that smoothly. In six starts across Triple-A and High-A, the Canadian hurler went 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA, striking out 25 batters while allowing 15 runs on 21 hits over 25 innings.

Hopefully, Soroka can return to form in 2023. He was an All-Star and finished sixth in NL Cy Young voting in his last full season (2019), which was also his rookie year. If that was just a glimpse of his potential, it'll be interesting to see what he can do if he fully recovers.

Braves World Series Odds

While Soroka heals, the Braves turn their attention back to the 2022 World Series hunt. Things are looking promising for Atlanta to win its second of back-to-back titles, currently owning the fifth-best World Series odds (+950) on FanDuel Sportsbook.
