The MLB offseason continues to roll along as the year winds down. With most of the top free agents already signed, teams are starting to look to the trade market to upgrade their rosters.
Lewin Diaz Trade
The Atlanta Braves have been one of the teams active on the trade market, already swinging a deal for Sean Murphy. They also made a smaller move to acquire Lewin Diaz from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for cash considerations.
Diaz had only been with the Orioles for a few weeks after they claimed him off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates, who quickly waived him after claiming him from the Miami Marlins. He was designated for assignment by Baltimore on Wednesday, but it didn't take long to strike a deal with Atlanta for the former top prospect.
The big left-handed first baseman has struggled in the majors since debuting in 2020. In three seasons with the Marlins, he posted a dreadful .181/.227/.340 slash line in 112 games. He also took a significant step back in 2022, watching his OPS plummet from .693 to .512.
The Braves hope they can finally unlock Diaz's potential by turning the 26-year-old into their latest reclamation project.
