The Atlanta Braves' 3-2 win over the New York Mets on Thursday secured a 3-1 series victory over their rivals. The Braves' efforts this week are even more commendable considering it was only two weeks ago that they lost a five-game series, 4-1, to their NL East rivals.

Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo told reporters after that game that he was "not that disappointed" in the series loss. Instead, he wishes that his club "could have done a little slightly better" on Thursday to walk out with the victory.

New York Mets News

The Braves opened up this latest series with back-to-back dominant wins over the Mets, outscoring their rivals 18-1 over that stretch. While New York battled back with a 9-7 victory on Wednesday, Max Fried out-dueled Jacob deGrom on Thursday, bringing Atlanta to just 3.5 games back of the NL East lead.

Despite the Braves' recent series victory, the two foes have been relatively even this season. They've already met 16 times, with the Mets winning nine of those clashes. However, Atlanta has had the slightly better offense, outscoring New York by a total of 76-67.

The good news for baseball fans is that the Mets and Braves still have one series left on the schedule. The NL East rivals will collide for another three-game series at Citi Field at the end of September, which could ultimately decide who wins the division.

NL East Odds

Even though the Mets suffered a setback this week, oddsmakers still view them as the NL East frontrunners. FanDuel Sportsbook currently favors New York to win its division at -440 odds, while the Braves are a distant second at +350.
