While the loss of DeAndre Hopkins gives Will Fuller a nice boost in fantasy football value for the 2020 season, the addition of Brandin Cooks did serve to cut into that some — especially because Cooks and Fuller play similar roles as deep threats.
Cooks was downgraded to out at Tuesday's practice, however, and if he's sidelined for Thursday's opener against the Kansas City Chiefs, Fuller's fantasy outlook will get a huge boost.
Will Fuller Fantasy Outlook
The idea of Fuller working as Deshaun Watson's WR1 has to excited fantasy managers. Even as a WR2, Fuller has shown obvious flashes of upside throughout his career.
That included an absurd 53.7-point fantasy performance in Week 5 last season, as well as three 20-plus point performances in just seven games in 2018. Those came despite the fact that Hopkins commanded 30 percent of the team's targets in 2019 and 32 percent in 2018, ranking top two in the NFL each year.
Now locked into an expanded workload, Fuller's production could go through the roof.
Kenny Stills Fantasy Outlook
Kenny Stills also gets a nice boost as a potential Week 1 fantasy sleeper if Cooks can't go.
The Texans clearly plan on pushing the ball downfield with Fuller and Cooks on the outside when they're healthy, and they won't have to change that gameplan with Cooks out. Stills is a strong deep threat himself, having averaged 15.7 yards per reception over his career while never averaging less than 14.0 in a single season.
His floor is still very low, but getting a spot in the starting lineup would make him an intriguing boom-or-bust option this week.
Brandin Cooks Injury Update
Cooks reportedly returned to practice on Wednesday, and he does appear to be trending towards playing. Even if he does play, he would likely be limited though.
Accounting for Cooks sitting out, Fuller checks in at WR22 in our Week 1 fantasy football rankings. That would be relatively unchanged by Cooks playing in a limited fashion.
