The Buffalo Bills haven't made much of a splash in free agency yet, but they did just sign one of the only big-name quarterbacks on the market.

The Bills have inked former Chicago Bears No. 2 overall pick Mitchell Trubisky to a deal to be Josh Allen's backup.

Trubisky obviously never lived up to his draft hype, but his career also hasn't been quite as bad as that bust status might have you believe.

He averaged 6.8 adjusted yards per pass attempt (AY/A) in 2020, which tied for 22nd among 36 qualifying passers. And his career-average isn't much worse, at 6.5 AY/A.

Those aren't the kind of numbers that will lead a team to the playoffs, but they do make him one of the best backup quarterbacks in the NFL.

For a Super Bowl hopeful team like the Bills, having a backup who can step in and win some games if Allen gets hurt is a crucial move.
