Former Alabama star Tua Tagovailoa has been moving up and down NFL Draft boards for the better part of a year, with his major hip injury being the main reason for that. With a handful of quarterback-needy teams in this draft, especially within the first 10 picks, Tua could end up going to a number of teams.
However, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Miami Dolphins are the favorites to land the lefty signal caller, at even money +100 odds.
Although, the Dolphins do have some real competition, with the Washington Redskins (+170), and Los Angeles Chargers (+200) not far behind. All three of these teams pick in the top six, and Washington will have the first shot of the group, picking second overall.
The Dolphins have Ryan Fitzpatrick and Josh Rosen as options at quarterback on the roster, but after splitting starts last season, neither has so far proved to be a viable long-term option. Since the start of last season, Dolphins fans had the #TankForTua mindset, but after pulling off five wins, that fell by the wayside. That is, of course, until Tua got hurt and Joe Burrow became Joe Burrow. It seems like a forgone conclusion Miami will target a QB in the draft, and according to the odds, Tua is once again expected to be their guy.
The Redskins drafted Ohio State's Dwayne Haskins in the first round of the 2019 Draft, but his rookie season was underwhelming to say the least. Now with the No. 2 pick, three spots ahead of Miami, Washington could hold the keys to how the top 10 picks play out. Rumors have swirled that Washington is strongly considering selecting Tua at No. 2 overall. It could be a smokescreen to try and get leverage on a trade, but odds indicate it legitimately could happen, similar to what the Cardinals did with Kyler Murray and Josh Rosen last season.
The Chargers have officially moved on from Philip Rivers, so they are likely dead set on drafting a quarterback, especially since there haven't been many rumors around them going after a free agent QB. Picking at No. 6, Los Angeles has been linked to Tua, Justin Herbert and Jordan Love. While they are picking last of the three teams, Tua to Los Angeles still seems very much in play, especially if they decide to trade up.
The list is rounded out by the Detroit Lions (+1500), Cincinnati Bengals (+2100), Jacksonville Jaguars (+4800), Las Vegas Raiders (+4800) and Indianapolis Colts (+6000).
While all of those teams have some question marks surrounding their quarterback situation, the belief is they will either not have the chance to draft Tua, or they have other options, in free agency, or the draft, that they prefer more.
Only time will tell which team actually lands Tua, but we are definitely set up for some potential fireworks in the beginning of the draft if multiple teams have their sights set on him.
