Betting Trend Points to Unlikely ATS Cover for Pats and Cowboys With 21-Plus Point Spreads in Week 3

The New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys are the two biggest favorites of the week. Dallas is currently listed as a 21.5-point home favorite over the Miami Dolphins, while New England is a 23-point home favorite over the New York Jets, per FanDuel Sportsbook.

However, one betting trend shows that both favorites could struggle to cover the massive spreads in Week 3.

NFL Odds Week 3

There have been 35 instances in which a team was favored by at least 21 points, but they've gone just 11-22-2 against the spread (ATS) in such games. While it may seem unlikely that a Dolphins team that has been outscored by 92 points thus far, and a Jets team playing with their third-string QB, can cover the spread, the stats certainly suggest otherwise.

Interestingly, the favorites are a perfect 35-0 straight up in such situations. Even if the Patriots and Cowboys struggle to cover, the numbers show both teams have a good shot at escaping with a victory.

Bettors should obviously take all this information with a grain of salt, as there's a reason they don't play these games on paper. Still, this trend shows that even if the Patriots and Cowboys can't cover the spread, both teams are likely to leave Week 3 with a victory.
