Ben Roethlisberger's play at quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers last season was a hot topic that carried into the offseason. Roethlisberger was productive in his age-38 season, though it's clear he's not in his prime anymore as his play declined in the second half of the year.
Still, Roethlisberger remains a top QB, and Chris Simms disrespected the Steeler great in his quarterback power rankings for this season.
Simms placed Big Ben at No. 22 in his rankings of the top-40 QBs around the league. Seeing Roethlisberger only one spot ahead of Ryan Fitzpatrick, and below others like Sam Darnold and Cam Newton is jarring.
Big Ben still has what it takes to lead a team. He recorded 3,803 yards and 33 TDs (with 10 INTs) in 2020 along with a 65,6 completion percentage. Much attention has been paid to Roethlisberger's arm strength as he approaches the end of his career, but he's seemingly made that an area of focus this offseason.
Frankly some of the other QBs ahead of Big Ben are unproven and don't warrant such a high ranking over the veteran. It'd be no surprise if Roethlisberger's spot in this top 40 looks foolish by the end of 2021.
