Ben Roethislisberger Preparing for Steelers to Move on Without Him

The Pittsburgh Steelers saw their 2020 season unravel after starting 11-0, losing four of their last five regular season games before an upset loss to the Cleveland Browns in the WIld Card round. Many questions surround Pittsburgh heading into the offseason, and veteran quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is at the center of them.
Roethlisberger had a somber quote about his future with the Steelers after his team's loss.
“I hope the #Steelers want me back if that’s the way we go,” Ben Roethlisberger says, noting that he still has one year left on his contract.

It's jarring to see Roethlisberger, who's been the starter for Pittsburgh since entering the league as a rookie in 2004, openly campaigning for his job. As a two-time Super Bowl champ, Big Ben knows that his prime days are behind him, and that puts the veteran at risk of losing his starting gig.
While Roethlisberger has contemplated retirement, it sounds like he's not leaning that way. He wants to be the Steelers' starter, but he doesn't know if the feeling is mutual. With one year left on his deal, Pittsburgh could bring him back for one last hurrah.
However, the Steelers would be wise to consider possible replacements, either to plan for their future or to keep them competitive now. The window to compete for a ring is often fleeting, and the Steelers need to heavily consider if Big Ben has enough juice left for one more run.
