The Chicago Bears offense has received mixed reviews from both fantasy football owners and analysts through the first two weeks of the 2019 NFL season. Mitchell Trubisky has struggled, but he has done one thing consistently heading into Week 3's "Monday Night Football" game with the Washington Redskins – the QB throws the ball to his running backs.
The Bears have the highest percentage of receptions by running back, and the lowest percent by wide receivers. That's something that has aided in the fantasy success of Chicago's top-two backs, Tarik Cohen and David Montgomery.
While Cohen is listed as a running back, out of his 73 total offensive snaps, he's lined up in the slot 45 times, split out wide eight times, in-line once and has taken 19 snaps out of the backfield. While he's seen just four carries, Cohen has been targeted 15 times through two games, catching 10 passes for 56 yards. He carries a lot of value in PPR leagues, given his target share in Bears' offense.
Montgomery, a rookie out of Iowa State, has done most of his damage on the ground, gaining 62 rush yards in Week 2, but he was also targeted three times in that contest. That's gives him added value in PPR leagues as a potential do-it-all running back for head coach Matt Nagy and the Bears.
As often as Trubisky looks to his backs, it gives both of them added value, especially in PPR leagues. Plus, the Bears have a positive matchup for RBs on Monday night against the Redskins, so getting either Cohen or Montgomery in your Week 3 lineup could be a smart thing for fantasy owners.
