After an offseason that has seemed to drag on forever with no preseason to give fans a sample of football in August, the 2020 NFL season is finally approaching.
The Week 1 schedule is set to proceed as usual, kicking off on Thursday, September 10 and bringing us our first 2020 NFL Sunday on September 13.
And of course, the return of football also means the return of NFL betting on FanDuel Sportsbook.
Fans in the NFC North may be surprised by the odds in the Week 1 matchup between the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions.
Bears vs Lions Odds Week 1
The Chicago Bears are 2.5-point underdogs on the road against the Detroit Lions. The Lions are also -138 moneyline favorites in a game with a 43.5-point over/under.
It's shocking to see the Bears open as underdogs after they finished 8-8 while the Lions went 3-12-1 in 2019. The Bears even have better odds to win the NFC North (+370) than the Lions (+500), suggesting they're still projected to be the superior team in 2020.
The odds may be leaning in the Lions' favor because they are the home team, but with no fans at Ford Field in Week 1, home field advantage may not be quite as impactful as it is most years.
Of course, with Matthew Stafford back at the helm, the Lions could also be in for a serious bounce-back season, and the Bears have still not decided on a starting QB for Week 1.
Despite the projected Week 1 result, the Bears are only modest +146 underdogs to make the playoffs, while the Lions are sitting as +240 long shots to make it back to the postseason.
