The Chicago Bears' quarterback situation continues to be one of the biggest offseason storylines around the league. Chicago signed veteran Andy Dalton to take over as starter, but then Justin Fields fell in the draft, prompting the Bears to trade up for a possible QB of the future.
Dalton has been given the initial edge as QB1. Yet his performance at OTAs on Wednesday was severely lacking.
Dalton reportedly threw three interceptions in 7-on-7 drills, which is concerning on multiple levels. It's clear he has a long way to go in regards to establishing a feel for his receivers. And racking up that many picks while not even facing a full 11-man defense is worthy of raising eyebrows.
The review on Fields' day was much more optimistic along with the expected kinks of a rookie QB. The fact that there weren't any glaring errors to report is good news in itself, especially considering how Dalton fared.
Now this is just one random day of workouts, and not even in a game setting. But it certainly means this situation is worth watching. Head coach Matt Nagy has left the door open for Fields to possibly take over as starter, and that could suddenly become the case if Dalton can't figure things out before the season.
